Met Office forecasts another monsoon spell in Karachi

CMO Sarfraz informed that well-marked monsoon low pressure has formed and moving towards Sindh.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Tuesday forecasted another monsoon spell in Karachi stating that monsoon rain and wind-thunderstorm will hit the city from Friday (August 9) to Monday (August 14) prior to the Eid-ul-Azha.

Chief Meteorological Officer (CMO) Sardar Sarfraz informed that a well-marked monsoon low pressure has formed over North Bay of Bengal and its adjoining areas, likely to move towards Sindh around morning of August 9. Under the influence of this weather system:

Widespread rains/wind-thunderstorm is expected in Mirpurkhas, Thatta, Hyderabad, Karachi, Shaheed Benazirabad divisions from Friday (evening/night) to Monday (morning).

Isolated moderate to heavy falls are also expected in lower Sindh (Mirpurkhas, Thatta, Hyderabad, Karachi, Shaheed Benazirabad divisions), Kalat, Zhob, Naseerabad, Sibbi divisions from Friday (night) to Sunday.

Urban flood warning in Sindh

Heavy falls may generate urban flooding in Karachi, Thatta and Hyderabad divisions on Friday (night) to Sunday, while flash flooding in Kalat, Sibbi, Zhob, Naseerabad divisions during the period.

All concerned authorities are advised to remain alert and take precautionary measures during the forecast period. 

Eight electrocuted as rain plays havoc with Karachi

On July 30, at least eight people, including children, have been electrocuted to death in Karachi after incessant rain in the metropolis.

As per the details, the incident took place in the Paposh Nagar area where two people lost their lives due to electrocution, while four other deaths were reported from Defense Phase-V, Gulistan-e-Johar and Nazimabad.

The torrential rains in parts of Sindh and KPK have wreaked havoc. Life at Hyderabad, Jamshuru, Thatta, Badin and Tandu Muhammad Khan was paralyzed after heavy rains lashed these cities. On the other hand the flood water caused huge trouble for the residents of Chitral.

As per details, the weather has turned pleasant after heavy rains in parts of Sindh. Rains in Hyderabad troubled people as rain water has not been drained.

In Jamshuru rain water has entered the city. Indus Highway and Railway station are flooded with rain water while power supply has been cut in several areas.

A similar situation was reported from Baddin and Tandu Muhammad Khan where people are suffering due to ill administration of responsible authorities.
