Nawaz Sharif pays visit to Data Darbar.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif visited Data Darbar on Sunday (today) and offered Fatiha.
Nawaz Sharif reached Data Darbar amidst beefed up security from Jati Umra. The erstwhile premier stood beside the grave of Hazrat Ali Hajveri – commonly known as Data Ganj Bakhsh – for a while keeping his eyes closed.
It is worth mentioning here that Nawaz Sharif was sentenced to seven years in prison and was fined Rs1.5 billion and $25 million in the Al-Azizia corruption reference by an accountability court on December 24, 2018.
Supreme Court had granted bail to former premier Nawaz Sharif for six weeks, giving him the freedom to obtain medical treatment of his choice within the country. Afterwards, he filed a review petition seeking an extension in his six-week bail in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference on medical grounds.
A three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Asif Saeed Khosa and comprising Justice Sajjad Ali Shah and Justice Yahya Afridi had rejected Nawaz Sharif’s review petition. The bail of ex-premier will expire on May 7.
PML-N leader Rana Sana Ullah on Saturday expressed that Nawaz Sharif was not given extension in bail which was his basic right. Nawaz Sharif would handover himself to jail authorities on May 7, he said.
