PSL 2019: Zalmi win in dramatic last ball finish against United

Islamabad United’s campaign so far has been pretty inconsistent.

DUBAI (Dunya News) – Liam Dawson s crunching straight drive for four off the final ball from Mohammad Sami ended a thrilling contest in Dubai; Peshawar Zalmi chased down 176 to beat Islamabad United by four wickets.

Playing first, Islamabad United scored a competitive 176 all out in their 20 overs with Cameron Delport 71, Philip Salt 28, Chadwick Walton 22 and Asif Ali 23 the main run scorers and Wahab Riaz 2-20, Ibtisam Sheikh 2-30 and Hasan Ali 2-24, the wicket takers for Peshawar Zalmi.

In reply, Peshawar Zalmi stumbled to 84-5 when Liam Dawson and Daren Sammy partnered up and took them to 121-5 (off 14 overs) requiring 57 to win off the remaining 6 overs.

These two took Zalmi to needing 14 off the last over bowled by Mohammad Sami and Sammy was run out, off the penultimate ball, leaving Dawson with 4 to win off the last – he smashed it straight down the ground for 4 to give Peshawar a dramatic 5 wicket win. Shadab Khan 2-21 was the pick of the bowlers for Islamabad United.

Peshawar Zalmi had won the toss and elected to bowl first against Islamabad United.

United has posted exactly the same total that Zalmi scored yesterday. Can @PeshawarZalmi score 177 this time or it is going to be the @IsbUnited s showdown? LIVE: https://t.co/AvvNVO1kH6#HBLPSL #KhelDeewanoKa #PZvIU pic.twitter.com/CNM62uc4tF

Islamabad United’s campaign had been pretty inconsistent but they were coming off one of their better performances where they did well to restrict Karachi Kings to just 168/8 when 200 looked possible and then they chased that down thanks to Asif Ali’s stunning 70 from 38 balls.

The issues in their batting department remain however as the likes of Delport and Hussain Talat are both under pressure to improve following their recent failures and it may well be that Phil Salt moves up the order to partner Ronchi after his solid knock last time out.

Meanwhile, Peshawar Zalmi are arguably the in-form team in the competition right now having won four of their last five matches and they come off a stunning win over Multan Sultans where they chased down 172/5 with four balls to spare on Thursday.

That victory came thanks to excellent half centuries from Umar Amin and Kieron Pollard who looks to be finding some good form at the moment and that seven-wicket victory may tempt them to go unchanged for this match.
