Gilani and others have been accused of causing loss of Rs1.2 billion to the national exchequer.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday filed a corruption reference in the accountability court of Islamabad against former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and six others for their alleged involvement in causing loss of Rs1.2 billion to the national exchequer.
Gilani and others have been accused for misuse of authority in illegal publicity campaign through M/S Midas Pvt Ltd, which is a Lahore-based advertising agency, and attempt to cause loss to the national exchequer.
Others in the case include former principal information officer Muhammad Saleem, former Ministry of IT (MoIT) secretary Farooq Awan, and Midas CEO Inam Akbar.
The NAB handout said that Gilani in 2011, as minister of IT, ordered the running of a media campaign, launched by Midas, to highlight the achievements of the Universal Services Fund (USF).
It added that there was no competition held to grant Midas the award "which is totally against the PPRA rules and policy guidelines by the Ministry of Information Broadcasting and the PID".
