ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - A two-member bench of Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday conducted hearing over ousted premier Nawaz Sharif’s petition against alleged alteration in prosecution’s star witness Wajid Zia’s—head of Panamagate joint investigation team (JIT)—statement in Al-Azizia reference case.

Justice Athar Manullah and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani heard the petition.

Khawaja Harris adopted stance that during cross-examination, Zia’s statement was recorded however; it was changed by the judge due to objection by NAB prosecutor.

“How will it affect the case?” asked Justice Manullah. “The written statement cannot be altered following objection by NAB.

“Let us listen the stance of NAB authorities also,” said the judge and summoned them tomorrow.

On Saturday, Nawaz moved IHC against alleged alteration in Zia’s statement.

The plea accused Zia of changing his statement during cross-examination on Aug 30. Nawaz Sharif has requested court to exclude Wajid Zia’s statements.

The plea further requests court to allow Sharif’s legal team to cross-examine Zia again. The judge of the accountability court has also been made plaintiff in the case.

Nawaz appears before accountability court

On the other hand, Nawaz was brought from Adiala Jail to accountability court amid strict security for the hearing hearing of Al-Azizia Steel Mills and Flagship Investments reference.

Judge Court II Muhammad Arshad Malik heard the case.

Khawaja Harris maintained that the proceeding of August 30 has been challenged in Islamabad High Court (IHC) following which NAB has been issued notice.

The judge then ruled that the next hearing will be held tomorrow after 12:30pm.
