Fazlur Rehman termed parliament 'bogus' but now wishes to become president, criticizes Fawad

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Minister for Information and Broadcasting Division Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday criticized Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Fazlur Rehman saying that he had termed the parliament ‘bogus’ but now wishes to become the president of the country.

His statement came during media interaction outside parliament house in Islamabad.

While announcing to end Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) and press council, Fawad said that a unified Pakistan Media Regulatory Authority will be created with the merger of existing two aforementioned departments.

He said the merger would help save national resources as the new regulatory body would look after electronic, print and social media simultaneously.

The Minister asserted that Pakistan Media Regulatory Authority would be a world class entity consisting of professionals and also representatives from media.

On a question regarding Aamir Liaquat, Fawad prayed that may Allah guide everyone towards the right path. 


Entertainment and film industry to be given priority


In his address to Senate, Fawad informed that entertainment and the film industry will be given priority by the information ministry as per the new policy.

The previous government in the center spent Rs17 billion on advertisements and if the amount spent by the Punjab government is also accumulated then that figures reach Rs40 billion.

He said Prime Minister Imran Khan has given clear instructions that no amount will be spent for self-projection or the publicity of the government.

The Information Minister maintained that censorship has been lifted on the state owned media and now the opposition parties are also being given time on the PTV.

He added that Pakistan Television has been directed to complete the process of installation of boosters in different areas in three months.
