Islamic body requested SC to decide whether destruction of shrines is violation of rights or not.

AHMEDABAD (Web Desk) – Petitioner of Islamic Relief Committee, Gujarat (IRCG) on Wednesday has rejected the aid of Rs 50,000 reserved for the renovation of religious structures damaged during 2002 riots.

According to details, IRCG s counsel Yusuf Muchhala submitted a petition and was summoned by Supreme Court (SC).

During his hearing, he said that the damage is a violation of fundamental rights of minority and the amount allocated for renovation is insufficient.

He further added that government should preserve the rights of minorities and pay adequate amount to overcome destruction.

Earlier in 2012, Gujarat High Court too concluded that it was a violation of basic rights of minorities and should be compensated as soon as possible.

The counsel further claimed that no amount can compensate the violation of rights, therefore, SC should decide whether the demolishment of shrines and religious places during riots is against human rights or not.

He stated that the damage of religious temples amounted about Rs. 85 lacs.
