French Formula One outfit Alpine shook up its organisation with experienced British engineer Pat
PARIS (AFP) - French Formula One outfit Alpine shook up its organisation on Thursday with experienced British engineer Pat Fry named as their new chief technical officer.
Fry, 57, who joined Alpine in 2020 after time with McLaren and Ferrari, will have a pivotal role in helping to shape Alpine’s fortunes on the track.
So too will Matt Herman, who joined the team from Mercedes in 2019, promoted to technical director.
The former Renault team prepares for the new season after the departures of non-executive director Alain Prost, and team boss Marcin Budkowski.
Aston Martin’s former American team principal Otmar Szafnauer is expected to take over the role shortly with Alpine unveiling their 2022 car on February 21, two days before pre-season testing in Barcelona.
Alpine go into battle with the same 2021 driver partnership of Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon as the sport ushers in an array of new regulations designed to produce closer combat although it’s hard to see how the excitement level could be raised much higher after all the drama served up last season.
Max Verstappen begins the defence of the world crown he took from Lewis Hamilton on the last lap of the final race of 2021 in Bahrain on March 20.
