KP LG elections: NA Speaker Asad Qaiser served notice for violating code of conduct

The DMO Peshawar has summoned NA Speaker Asad Qaiser on December 12.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – District Returning Officer issued notice to Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser on December 13 for violating code of conduct after the announcement of the schedule for local body elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

It is pertinent to mentioned here that local body elections will be held on December 19 in 17 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Peshawar and ECP has released its schedule.

After the first round of local body elections, polls in other 18 districts will be held on January 16, 2022. A total of 19,282 candidates are contesting for the seats of General Councilors on 2,359 village council (VC)/neighbourhood council (NC), while the number of female candidates for the same number of village council (VC)/neighbourhood council (NC) seats is 3,905.

The districts which will go to polls on December 19 include Buner, Bajaur, Swabi, Peshawar, Nowshera, Kohat, Karak, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Tank, Haripur, Khyber, Mohmand, Charsadda, Mardan, Hangu and Lakki Marwat.

According to a statement issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan, a notice was issued to the Speaker National Assembly by District Monitoring Officer (DMO) Swabi and he has been summoned on December 13. The notice directed Speaker Asad Qaiser to appear in person or through counsel.

The notice stated that an alleged audio clip of the NA speaker making rounds on electronic media, wherein he is appealing to voters for their support and promising government funding to PTI candidates, "saying that project tenders are in process and soon these tenders will be notified".

The DMO Peshawar has also issued notices to another PTI National Assembly member Shaukat Ali for violating the code of conduct and summoned him on December 12.
