Opp leader says electricity theft in Quetta, Peshawar and Hyderabad less than Lahore
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News): Opposition leader in the National Assembly on Thursday said that despite tall claims of the government of ending load shedding, smaller provinces were being treated like stepmother.
During the National Assembly session, the opposition leader said that time and again the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) had been briefed about electricity, revealing that electricity theft in in Hyderabad, Peshawar, Quetta and Sukkur was less than that of Lahore.
Shah maintained that the government reckoned 21 percent line losses in electricity theft, which is a failure on part of the government.
The PPP leader said that electricity supply system had become obsolete. “Forty percent areas of Balochistan still lack grid stations,” he said, adding the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh speaks the same.
The opposition leader added that the electricity supply system had worn out, adding that 45 percent area of the country was facing load shedding up to 12 hours.
Referring to the Karachi-Electric (KE), Shah said that the power utility had made the life of 20 million people of Karachi miserable. “They (KE) must be asked to run oil power plants,” he said, adding: that the reason behind generation of electricity from Lahore was that oil power plants were being operated there.
