LHC demands detailed answer from government after receiving petition regarding smog
LHC received a petition regarding implication of standard measures to combat smog
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Lahore High Court’s Chief Justice Mansoor Ali Shah proceeded with the hearing of petition submitted by the members of Civil Society regarding implication of standard measures to combat smog and as a response, demanded detailed answer from the government regarding the issue.
The petition had challenged government’s failure to implement standard measures to deal with smog. Petitioner’s Advocate Azhar Siddique asserted that the government ignored the environmental protection policy in their bid to proceed with the development projects formed on shaky grounds.
The advocate went on further and said that government’s disregard to consider the environmental risks is the reason that pollution has become difficult to contain in the province. He requested the court to compel the government to seriously consider the environment protection laws.
In response, the court decided to obtain government’s take on this on December 4 to get their narrative as well before coming to any decision.
