Abid Sher Ali tweeted Nawaz Sharif's picture, couplet he captioned it with referred to 'Marhab'

LAHORE: (Web Desk) – Federal Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali always finds ways to make it to the news. But today, the path he has chosen seems a bit out of place, to say the least.

In a tweet he posted last night at 12:52 PM, Abid Sher Ali had captioned a photo of former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif, who also happens to be the leader of Abid Sher Ali’s Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N), with a couplet which apparently terms Nawaz Sharif as ‘Marhab’.

The couplet would roughly translate to something like: They were challenging him first, saying where is ‘Marhab’; now that he has come, they seem annoyed.

For those who might not know who Marhab really is, the historical figure was a Jewish leader in Arabia when Muslims, under the command of Hazrat Ali (RA), had attacked the Jewish fort in Khyber. Ali had challenged Marhab to a duel and the mighty opponent, who was famed for his height and strength, came out in a one-on-one battle against Ali (RA).

Hazrat Ali had then killed Marhab in the battle. According to the tradition, Ali (RA) had hit Marhab’s head with his sword, splitting his body into two.

Other Tweeps were quick to correct Abid Sher Ali, who probably doesn’t care to read their comments and the tweet is still very much on his Twitter profile.

Renowned journalist Iqrar ul-Hassan Syed also told him the story of Marhab, replying to Abid’s tweet.

PML-N opponents had a field day on Twitter as Abid Sher Ali’s tweet received over 2000 replies. However, the PML-N leader is apparently adamant on his simile, and has neither responded to the people nor deleted the tweet.
