PTI chairman says common consumers paying for the theft of electricity, corruption in bills

LAHORE: (Dunya News) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has on Tuesday said that load shedding in Pakistan is on the rise because of corruption and electricity theft, reported Dunya News.

In a tweet, Imran Khan said that while Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif has declared hot weather as the reason for load shedding, he should have known earlier that Pakistan has summers as well.

Imran said that Khawaja Asif had admitted in his press conference that the electricity shortfall has risen from 4000 MW last year to 5400 MW this year. He added that government had already admitted that the circular debt had risen to Rs 385 billion while IPPs have already warned of getting government’s security cashed.

Imran further said in his tweets that load shedding is on the rise because of corruption and theft while the common consumers were paying for the theft from their own pockets through their electricity bills.
