ECO summit: Leaders urge for economic progress and peace

ECO summit notification was released after the leaders from ten countries in Islamabad returned

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – 13th summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) concluded on Wednesday in the federal capital and leaders from the ten countries shared their opinion on promotion of peace as well as economic development.

Its press release stated that mutual cooperation would be carried out to face the ongoing challenges, adding that it had been decided to promote regional, political, social, cultural and technical collaboration between the member states.

Leaders of the countries approved connecting the member states through sea ports, railway tracks and cyber communications while enhancing trade and economic cooperation.

ECO summit concluded on the note that public relations should be developed along with the educational and scientific programs. Vision 2025 plan was decided in which ECO Bank will be extended and Reinsurance Company will be enabled.

Energy projects have been decided in which oil and gas pipelines will be installed between the member countries. It will also focus on electricity production which will be invested by foundation of ECO Electricity Market.

The leaders expressed concerns on discriminatory immigration policies, threat to democracy and social barriers. Mutual effort has been encouraged for the freedom of the occupied regions.
