World Bank to provide loan for extension of Tarbela hydropower project

The project will enhance the total capacity at Tarbela to 6,298 MW

Karachi (Dunya News) – World Bank agreed to loan $390M for Tarbela hydropower project, reported Dunya News.

According to details, the loan would be used for the extension of Tarbela hydropower project. The project will enhance the total capacity at Tarbela to 6,298 MW.

Moreover, under the project a 50-kilometre long transmission line would also be laid for carrying additional generation.

The project will be financed with a variable spread and 20 years maturity.

In addition, the World Bank is also working on a pilot floating solar power plant that could lead to an additional generation capacity of 5,000 MW. The project will be financed by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) by providing $300M.

According to experts, the recent projects would lead to production of extra energy and thus the problem of load shedding would soon be under control.
