Announcement made after confirmation regarding his identity received through DNA test report

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Ministry of Interior on Sunday verified the death of Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour in a US drone strike that took place in Nushki on May 21, reported Dunya News.

Verification was issued after confirmation regarding Mansour s identity was received through his Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) test report. Concerns regarding Mansour s identity were raised after he along with a driver travelling with him in a car got killed in a drone strike in Nushki, Balochistan.

United States took the stance that the Taliban leader was killed in the drone strike but the identification card and passport found near the area where the incident took place belonged to a person named  Muhammad Wali  that made enormous confusion. DNA sample of a close relative of Mansour was taken after he arrived from Afghanistan to collect his dead body.

Despite the fact that confirmation was made by Foreign Advisor Sartaj Aziz that Mansour got killed as a result of the drone strike, Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan stated that the final verdict regarding his identification would be made after receiving his DNA report.
