ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Director General (DG) Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Asim Saleem Bajwa said that an anti-corruption campaign was underway in the armed force on directives of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Dunya News reported Tuesday.

While conversing in programme ‘Dunya Kamran Khan Kay Sath’, the ISPR DG said that a combing operation was launched across the country against no-go areas, sleeper cells of banned outfits and terrorists.

Lt General Bajwa stated that a total of 207 cases were being heard at different military courts and that decisions in 88 of them were made. He stated that the operation in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) was almost complete.

DG ISPR said that various intelligence based operations were being carried out in the country and that the Temporarily Displaced Persons (TDPs) were also returning to their homes, adding that the entire population of the TDPs would head back to their abodes by the end of this year.

DG Bajwa said that operations would be carried out in all the no-go areas of the country and that all such areas would be cleared. He further added that Chotu gang was operational since the past seven years and that the locals were relieved after army’s operation.

He said that some facilitators of terrorists still exist and advised the citizens to stay alert. The Director General said that interrogation was being carried out from members of Chotu’s gang and that many revelations had been made. Details of the interrogations would be shared once a report is compiled, he added.

For the first time DG ISPR confirmed the action taken against various corrupt military personnel. He stated that a special anti-corruption drive was being carried out within the army on the orders of the Army Chief. Lt General Bajwa said that six military officials were sacked and that all of them were reprimanded.

He clarified that no inquiries took place against Lieutenant General Naveed Zaman and Sajjad Ghani, adding that news about action against them was nothing but speculation.

The Director General said that the army was setting examples by dealing with corruption effectively. He said that punishments were given in accordance with the offence. DG ISPR said that the process of accountability was made tougher, adding that inquiries would be held in the future as well.
