Aircraft Mushaq, was on a routine training flight when it crashed due to technical fault

ISLAMABAD (AFP) - Two Pakistani army pilots were killed on Tuesday after their plane crashed during a training flight, the military said.

"An Army aviation training aircraft Mushshak crashed near Gujranwala while on a routine training flight," it said in a statement.

Gujranwala, a garrison, agricultural and industrial town, lies some 200 kilometres (124 miles) southeast of the capital Islamabad.

Both army officers, an instructor and a trainee pilot, were killed, it added. No loss of life or property was reported on the ground.

The officers were flying a Mushshak, a Pakistani built fixed wing turbo-prop trainer that is a modified version of the Saab Safari.

Three pilots were killed in two training mission accidents in Pakistan last year, according to an AFP tally.
