NACTA still inactive as country continues war against terrorism
NACTA was supposed to be the essential component of the National Action Plan (NAP)
LAHORE (Dunya News) – The National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) developed for countering terrorism still remains inactive as country continues fighting war against terrorism.
NACTA was supposed to be the essential component of the National Action Plan (NAP) however but as of yet remains non functional.
Cooperation between departments seems farfetched as even a meeting of Board of Governors formed under Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif could not take place in the past 13 months.
The plans to curb terrorism have been limited to the files of the organization as no practical implementation has been seen since its formation.
The painstakingly time consuming process marked with technical difficulties faced by security agencies of gathering intelligence against terrorists, sending them to the designated departments and delivering timely reports on terrorists could not be resolved due to NACTA’s inactivity.
Furthermore, laws regarding terrorism and extremism could not be analyzed while the Federal government could also not be updated of an amendment in any law could due to the NACTA’s dormancy.
The process of consensus of committees of experts to enhance the organization’s efficiency could not be started as well due to NACTA’s indolence.
The organization has also remained incapable of developing a framework for benefiting from experiences of the international community in combating terrorism.
