Entry of 24 ulema banned in Lahore during Muharram

According to district administration, the decision has been taken on the recommendation of police.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The district administration has imposed a ban on the entry of 24 ulema in the Lahore district in order to maintain peace during Muharram.

The ulema coming under the ban belong to various schools of thought whereas 14 of them have been prohibited from delivering speech or sermon at any public place for a period of one month.

According to district administration, the decision has been taken on the recommendation of the police.

Moreover, the authorities have also issued a notice in this regard as per which the ban will take effect immediately.

1st Muharram marks the beginning of Islamic calendar and this month has historic and religious significance as the first ten days are when the events of Karbala took place hundreds of years ago.

The federal government on Tuesday has approved the request of provinces regarding deployment of army in sensitive areas during Muharram-ul-Haram.

All the four provinces wrote a letter to federation, demanding army personnel’s deployment in order to meet any untoward situation during the holy month.

More than 12,000 army soldiers would be appointed in various parts of the country as a quick response force.

The authorities would ensure the security of highly-sensitive areas in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar, Multan, Gujranwal, Faisalabad, Jhang, Hangu, Bannu, Kohat, D.I Khan and Chakwal.

On the other hand, the district administration of Quetta has banned pillion riding by imposing Section-144 in an attempt to maintain law and order during Muharram 7 to 10.
