Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali takes oath as new CJP

Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali has been sworn in as the 24th Chief Justice of Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali has taken oath as the 24th Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) in Islamabad on Thursday, succeeding Chief Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja. 

President Mamnoon Hussain administered the oath in a ceremony being held at the Presidency. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, federal ministers, members of parliament, chiefs of armed forces, lawyers and other Supreme Court judges will attend the ceremony.

PROFILE 

Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali was born on 30 December 1951 in Hyderbad. He received his Bachelor s Degree in Commerce from University of Sindh in 1971 and the Bachelor s Degree in law and 1973 from the same university. 

He is a judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan since 3 August 2009. He also served as Acting Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan from July 3, 2014 to December 4,2014, and as Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court from 27 August 2008 to 2 August 2009.

Justice Jamali was one of the judges who refused to take fresh oath under the Provisional Constitutional Order No.1 of 2007.
