The next hearing will commence on August 31
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Supreme Court of Pakistan ordered to halt operation against slums on the outskirts of Islamabad on Wednesday. The Supreme Court has sought replies from the relevant authorities on the matter, reported Dunya News
Chief Justice Jawwad S.Khawaja remarked on Tuesday that there is no difference between illegal settlements and other encroachments that are built on government land adding that City Development Authority (CDA) should not play ‘king’ and kick people out of their homes.
Hearing the petition against taking down slums in Sector I-11, the applicant’s lawyer claimed that as many as 42 settlements are being taken down and thousands of people are being forced out of their homes.
Supreme Court has approved the petition to hear the case and ordered administration of Islamabad not to continue operation against any slum. The next hearing will commence on August 31.
