Terror bid foiled in Bannu, 6 kg bomb defused near police checkpoint

Bannu town lies close to Pakistan's semi-autonomous tribal region.
BANNU (Web Desk) – A major terror bid was foiled today (Wednesday) when authorities defused a bomb near police checkpoint in the volatile northwestern town of Bannu, Dunya News reported.
As per details, unknown miscreants had planted a 6 kg bomb near a police checkpoint in Mandan Gate area near Railway Road in Bannu.
The bomb disposal squad was immediately called in and the area was cordoned off when police spotted the bomb.
BDS experts neutralized the bomb averting a major disaster in the town.
Bannu lies close to North Waziristan, a tribal region on the Afghan border where security forces are engaged in a full scale offensive to eliminate Tehreek-e-Taliban and al Qaeda-linked militant groups.
Earlier on Tuesday, police recovered three cylinder bombs weighing 120 kg from a rickshaw in Baldia Town.
According to the bomb disposal squad, all 3 cylinders contained explosive material which was linked together by a remote control device.
The bomb disposal squad also informed that the overall weight of the bombs was more than 120 kg. The explosion could have caused a major destruction.
