Pakistan urges UN to play role in reducing LoC tension

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Pakistan s Permanent Representative to United Nations Masood Khan held a meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon in New York and apprised him about the prevailing situation on the Line of Control and the Working Boundary, the state radio report on Saturday.
During the meeting, Masood Khan urged the United Nations to play its role for defusing tension on the line of control.
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, twelve civilians were martyred and 52 people were injured due to unprovoked firing and shelling by Indian on the LoC and Working Bounday since first of October.
"We condemned it and lodged a protest with India," she told media during weekly briefing on Friday.
Recently, thousands of people on both sides of the border fled their homes to escape what residents said was some of the worst shelling in years.
Kashmir is divided between India and Pakistan but both lay claim to the scenic Himalayan region.
Clashes occur regularly along the disputed border known as the Line of Control (LoC) as well as along the internationally recognized frontier dividing Indian-held Kashmir from Pakistan s Punjab province.
