British land will never be used against Pakistan: Barton
The British High Commissioner designate to Pakistan says drone issue is Pak-US bilateral matter.
LONDON (Dunya News) – Talking to Pakistani journalists on Thursday, British High Commissioner designate to Pakistan Philip Barton said that appointment as High Commissioner to Pakistan was his dream. He said that the matter of drone attacks is a bilateral issue of Pakistan and the US.
Barton said that no one would be allowed to use Britain’s land to destabilize Pakistan. Police and courts can be moved if there is any complaint against somebody.
Philip Barton who will succeed Adam Thomson, comes with extensive experience with South Asia having held a number of positions that dealt with Pakistan and Afghanistan, including being the Director of Foreign Policy on Af-Pak coordination in the Cabinet office as part of the Secretariat supporting the National Security Council.
Barton, who was earlier posted in Washington DC, has served as the Additional Director for South Asia in the FCO; and enjoyed a posting in New Delhi.
According to history of Barton’s service, he joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in 1986.
He has also served as Private Secretary to Prime Ministers John Major and Tony Blair. He has served postings in Gibraltar as Deputy Governor, Nicosia as Deputy High Commissioner and Caracas.
