The court also ordered immediate closure of a pump in the Allama Iqbal Town.

LAHORE (Web Desk) - The Lahore High Court on Friday declared construction of CNG stations in the residential areas as ‘illegal.’

The court was hearing a petition challenging construction of a CNG station in residential area of Allama Iqbal Town.

Residents of the area had filed the petition and stated that a CNG station was being constructed on a land after changing its status from residential to commercial.

They said the conversion of the residential area into commercial by the Lahore Development Authority was also illegal. Petitioners requested the court to impose a complete ban on the construction of CNG stations in residential areas.

During case hearing today, the presiding judge announced that under the Lahore Development Authority Act, 1975, and the Local Government Ordinance, 2001 commercial activities could not be carried out in residential areas.
