Police's 30 private torture cells unearthed in Lahore

A report stating that such cells are portraying negative image of police has been sent to Punjab CM.

LAHORE (Daily Dunya) – The police culture has continued to prevail in Punjab despite funds worth millions as 30 torture cells have been made privately at different places in Lahore.

According to a report, the suspects are being subjected to torture at these cells on the pressure of powerful people. The criminals are also threatened to be killed in fake encounters if their relatives don’t give ransom.

At least one local was killed, several injured while three dangerous proclaimed offenders were escaped from these torture cells in last two months.

The higher officials are unaware of such kind of brutal assault with the prisoners.

According to an intelligence agency, a report stating that such cells are portraying negative image of police has been sent to Chief Minister of Punjab (CM) Shehbaz Sharif.

It was also mentioned that CIA, anti-car lifting and some police stations have formed illegal torture cells where the officers take the detainees without filing case.

Torture cell under Shafiqabad police station is located at Bagh Munshi Ladha from where two proclaimed offenders Waqas and Iqbal were allegedly released.

Millat Park police have formed torture cell at a house of political personality at Bastami Road.

Iqbal Town police made cell in Jahanzaib Block, CIA in Neelum Block, Ichra police at Baba Azam Chowk while Rang Mehal, Masti Gate and Akbari Gate police stations have formed cells at Chota Mufti Baqir and Neelum Chowk whose owner, a famous trader, has given his houses without any money.

Shera Kot police have arranged illegal torture cell at a factory of retired police inspector while Gulshan Ravi police take suspects to Block A.

Punjab CM has directed Inspector General to take stern action against these cells for which a committee of senior officers has been formed that will submit report to CM.
