Girl tried suicide after failing to marry according to her choice, say police

MULTAN (Dunya News) – The case of 20-years-old burnt girl, admitted in Multan’s Nashtar Hospital, took a new turn on Friday when the police said that the girl was not torched by someone else but tried suicide.

The girl from Basti Malook area of Multan claimed that she was set on fire by a neighbor, named Muhammad Latif, who according to her, tried to rape her when she was going to the fields early in the morning but he failed and in desperation set the girl on fire. The parents of the girl also corroborated her story.

Police have arrested Muhammad Latif and a case has been filed against him. Today police claimed that the girl was burnt as a result of her suicide attempt, which she tried when her parents refused to let her marry according to her own will. Though police could not provide the proof to support their statement, it will change the direction of the case. It is worth mentioning here that the cases of rape, murder and other crimes again women are common in some areas of South Punjab. Criminals mostly do not get caught or punished because of the unjust and corrupt police system.

Doctors told Dunya News that 35 to 40 percent of her body has been burnt and her condition is critical.
