Umar Akmal dropped from T20 squad over 'immoral acts' at a dance party

Dunya News

Akmal has been slapped with a show-cause notice as well

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday dropped batsman Umar Akmal from the T20 squad against England over ‘immoral acts’ at a dance party in Hyderabad while also slapping him with a show-cause notice, Dunya News reported.

The Chairman PCB and Chief Selector did not, however, tell what kind of ‘immoral acts’ were committed by the star batsman. They said they have initiated an inquiry following the reports of Akmal’s ‘violation of discipline’.

After the announcement of the T20 squad against England, Chief Selector Haroonur Rasheed presented an explanation to the media. He said the ‘shameless’ incident that took place in Hyderabad has maligned the board.

Rasheed said Akmal has been served a show-cause notice over violation of the code of conduct. PCB Chairman Sheheryar Khan talked on the issue briefly but did not mention what went down at the party.

He said an inquiry on the issue is underway, adding that the star batsman is out of the series until a decision is reached.

The board did not tell what went down in Hyderabad. However, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Irfan Baloch has revealed that there was a dance party at which a certain someone was arrested but did not mention Akmal’s name.

This revelation has once again raised several questions.

PCB chairman Shaharyar Mohammad Khan has approved the Pakistan squad for the three-match T20I series against England following the recommendation of the selection committee headed by Haroon Rashid.

The series commences on November 26 at the Dubai International Stadium, followed by the second game at the same venue on Nov. 27 and Sharjah on Nov. 30.

Meanwhile, Iftikhar Ahmed has been named as the 16th member of the ODI squad to fill in the slot that fell vacant following Younis Khan’s retirement.

Umar Akmal was in contention for a place in the T20I squad, but he was not considered following the Board issuing him a show cause notice after the press reports revealed that he had brought PCB and Pakistan Cricket into disrepute.

According to Chief Selector Haroon Rashid, Umar Akmal has subsequently been dropped on instructions from the Board and has been issued with a show cause notice for bringing PCB and Pakistan Cricket into disrepute.
