NEPRA to hire consultant for coal-run power plants as consumption to triple in 2-year

Coal market is expected to grow from current 5 mn tons to more than 15 mn tons per annum.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - National Electric Power Regulatory Authority plans to hire consultant for its coal run power projects as the demand to shoot up by three times in next two years.

According to the information available from NEPRA, there are at least three 1320 MW projects based on imported coal will be in operation in next two years and further some bagasse based co-generation power plants are also using coal when bagasse is not available.

The Pakistan coal market is emerging and is expected to grow from current five millions tons to more than 15 million tons per annum. Thus there will be an enormous load of work on periodic basis with regards to the revision of fuel cost component of caol power generation companies.

NEPRA for this purpose intends to hire an individual consultant or fimr to prepare manual for periodic fuel price adjustment and based on which, verify the coal price of each cargo delivered to these power plants and independently recommend a final coal price of each coal cargo shipment received during the month.

The government planned to end the load shedding in the country which in peak summer season reaches almost 6000 to 7000 mega watt. Number of plants to be run through LNG and coal to end the deficit.
