KARACHI (Dunya News) – Exporters are on the verge of losing crores of Rupees as Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) employees’ strike and protests have led to delay in deliveries of orders, Dunya News reported Wednesday.

Chairman of All Pakistan Fruits and Vegetables (PFVA) Waheed Ahmed said that the export orders would be cancelled within two to three days. Delivery of the orders is pertinent, he added.

Ahmed said that the exporters prefer to use the national airlines as it is 20 to 30 percent cheaper than others.

Pakistan International Airlines employees have launched a series of protests against privatization of the company. The government is willing to privatize the national airlines however, the employees have clashed with the federation on the matter.

Government had to budge to the protests and delayed the privatization by six months. The employees did not take the postponement as an answer and rallied towards Jinnah terminal from the head office on February 1.

Following the clash, PIA chairman resigned from the post while Pakistan Airlines Pilots’ Association (Palpa) announced the join the strike.

The issue has tangled further after protesting bodies have vowed support to each other. The fact that flight operations across the country have grinded to halt today have put immense pressure on the government.
