Kyrgyz president warns against destabilisation

Dunya News

Kyrgyz President has urged presidential candidates not to destabilise the situation in the country.

Kyrgyz President Roza Otunbayeva addressed the nation calling on presidential candidates not to destabilise the situation in the Central Asian country in the upcoming election on Sunday. We should not give in to our pride, we should not provoke the common people and push them to illegal actions which destroy stability. I regard this as an act against our statehood, Otunbayeva said.Kyrgyzstan aims to complete bold reforms to create Central Asias first parliamentary democracy when it votes on Sunday to elect a new president capable of bridging the divisions that threaten stability in the strategic ex-Soviet state.Polling stations around the country are completing the final preparations for Sundays vote, which includes 16 candidates from various parts of the country. We are a little worried because we have been preparing for a long time. Today is the last day and we are making final preparations at our polling station number 1043, said Lilia Abduzhaliyeva, head of a polling station in the capital Bishkek.Representatives of the candidates headquarters as well as international watchdogs will be monitoring the course of elections in over 2000 polling stations around the country. One of the monitors from the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europes observation mission said he have not seen any major violations in the campaign during the preparation period.
