Rebels to establish headquarters in Tripoli

The head of Libya's rebel council said the NTC would establish a headquarters in Tripoli.

“A delegation from the executive bureau travelled to Tripoli two days ago. And tomorrow six more members of the National Council will join them to organise affairs and to locate the headquarters there,” Mustafa Abdel Jalil said at a news conference in Benghazi.This comes only days after Libyan rebel fighters poured into Tripoli and on Monday morning (August 22) controlled most of the capital, though fighting persisted in a few districts. Jalil went on to say that significant amounts of oil and gas had been secured in Libyas Zawiya refinery.“A great quantity of gas and oil has been found in the Zawiya refinery, which is not only enough for the western region of Libya, but is in fact enough for the entire country,” said Jalil, adding: “There are stockpiles of foodstuff that would satisfy the needs of twice as the inhabitants of Tripoli.”The head of the NTC also urged people in parts of the country still under Muammar Gaddafis control to join the revolution and said he welcomed talks with groups in those areas to avoid more killing.
