Riot victim Richard Mannington Bowes dies after attack

Richard Mannington Bowes was attacked as he tried to stamp out a fire during the Ealing riots.

Mr Bowes, 68, died last night after being set upon in Springbridge Road during Mondays violence in west London.A murder investigation has now been launched by the Metropolitan Police.Detective Chief Inspector John McFarlane, of the Mets Homicide and Serious Crime Command, said: This was a brutal incident that resulted in the senseless killing of an innocent man.I still need the assistance of the community who may have witnessed the attack on Richard, to come forward and provide information or images they may have recorded on mobile devices. This information could be crucial in catching his killer.Mr Bowes, from Haven Green, Ealing, was placed on a life-support machine after suffering serious head injuries from the attack, which took place at around 10.45pm on Monday.Witnesses described how Mr Bowes was attacked as he tried to put out a fire they had started in a supermarket bin near the Arcadia shopping centre.Two CCTV images of a man suspected of carrying out the assault have been issued by police.
