69 killed, more than 7000 injured as Indian violence in held Kashmir marks a month

SRINAGAR (Web Desk / Dunya News) – After a month of Indian atrocities in held Kashmir, the death toll has risen to 69 while more than 7000 people have been injured so far in firing, use of pellets guns and teargas shells by Indian troops and police personnel on the protesters

In occupied Kashmir, situation remained tense across the valley for the second consecutive day on Sunday, since the killing of four persons and injuries to over 800 in firing by Indian police and Central Reserve Police Force in central and north parts of held Kashmir on Friday.

People on Saturday defying curfew and restrictions came out their houses and protested against the killings. Over 60 people were injured in clashes between angry youth and police and CRPF men across the valley. Policemen used force to foil a protest rally in Chee village of South Kashmir’s Islamabad district, during which around 40 civilians, including seven women, were injured. Clashes also broke out in Herpora, Shopian. The police fired tear smoke shells and resorted to heavy baton charge on the protesting youth. In the clashes, four persons sustained injuries.

People in Pattan staged a protest demonstration at Yadipora area of Pattan. Chanting pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, the protestors were demanding an end to civilian killings. The protestors clashed with the police, who fired pellets and tear smoke shells. At least four persons sustained pellet injuries and were hospitalized.

Protests also erupted this afternoon in Wagoora area of Sopore after body youth Danish Rasool killed in forces firing yesterday was laid to rest in a local graveyard. The youth torched an abandoned police post in Wagoora and pelted stones on the police and CRPF men. The cops fired tear smoke shells and resorted to heavy baton charge on protestors. Thousands of people participated in funeral prayers of Danish amid chanting of pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.

21-year-old Sameer Ahmad Wani, who was killed in forces firing in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district yesterday, was also laid to rest at a graveyard in his native village Mullanaroo Takya Farooq. Hundreds of people defying restrictions attended his funeral chanting of pro-freedom and pro-Islam slogans.

The clashes between youth were also reported from Rainawari, Batamaloo, Chanapora, Natipora, Baghi Mehtab, Pampore, Soura and many areas in Srinagar and Ganderbal districts. Reports of clashes and protests were also reported from many parts of north Kashmir.

Meanwhile, residents of Langate, Karalgund, Supernaghama and Beighpora that that forces went berserk in their localities and damaged fruits and ransacked window panes of their houses. Women in the localities staged protest against the highhandedness of troops. They were beaten by the troopers ruthlessly.

People at many places in Indian occupied Central Kashmir, North Kashmir and South Kashmir offered afternoon prayers on the roads.
