Hamas stages mass rally in Gaza on 22nd anniversary
Tens of thousands of Hamas supporters attended a rally in central Gaza on Monday marking the 22nd anniversary of the founding of the Islamist group. Wearing green hats and scarves, hundreds of supporters flocked to the venue decorated with murals of Hamas' slain founders. The group's leader in Gaza, Ismail Haniyeh, said they would continue their resistance against Israel until it achieves independence for the Palestinian people. Haniyeh said 18 years of negotiations had failed, and Israel continued to build settlements on occupied territory. He accused America of being biased towards Israel. It seems that the speeches which were heard by the people, from the American President, in Cairo University or other places, Turkey or others, it seems was just words, Haniyeh told the crowds. The Islamist group, which seized control of Gaza in 2007, does not recognize.
