Macedonia is in danger of collapsing amid extensive flooding caused by four days of torrential rain.

 

SKOPJE (AP):- Authorities say two dams in Macedonia are in danger of collapsing amid extensive flooding caused by four days of torrential rain. Hundreds of people have also been evacuated from flooded homes.

 

The National Crisis Management Center said Wednesday the situation at the Pistica dam in eastern Macedonia is considered critical due to a 20-meter (65-foot) -long crack, which is currently above the water line.


A swollen river in western Macedonia is also threatening another dam, the Slatino.


The center s spokeswoman, Nadica V ckova, said a total of about 1,000 people have been evacuated from flooded homes in eastern and northeastern parts of the country. Meteorologists say rain will continue until Thursday.
