Cairo wants assurance on Israeli-Palestinian peace talks: Egypt
Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit says that Cairo wants assurances that any Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations will ensure a Palestinian state and not be used to waste time. His remarks came ahead of a visit to Egypt by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who on Saturday endorsed Israel's view that settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank should not be a bar to resuming talks contradicting the Palestinian stance. We want to have guarantees for the Palestinians that ensure them that these negotiations will not be used to waste time or to accomplish Israeli objectives against them, Aboul Gheit told a news conference in Cairo.
