Youth Parliament takes over British House of Commons
First time in 300 years anyone other than MPs have debated in the British House of Commons chamber. Members of the UK Youth Parliament (MYPs) were granted permission to take over the chamber to discuss issues of concern to young people. More than 100 MYPs spoke during the debates on tuition fees, youth crime, free transport, the economy and lowering the voting age. At the end of the session the Members of the Youth Parliament selected lowering the voting age to 16 as their main campaign topic for the coming year.
