French Presidential candidate Hollande gains more popularity in second round of polls.

As the French presidential election entered its final strait on Monday (April 30), frontrunner Francois Hollande remained confident, whilst people on the streets of Paris thought victory was inevitable for the Socialist candidate.Although an Ipsos poll published in Le Monde on Monday showed a slight decrease in Hollandes lead, he is still widely expected to take the presidency from the incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy in the run-off on May 6.Following a strong first round performance where he beat Sarkozy into second place, Hollande was optimistic as he spoke to French radio station Europe 1 on Monday morning. The French people appear to have fallen out of love with the man once dubbed President Bling Bling and Hollande has consistently led the field of candidates over the course of the campaign. On the streets of Paris, there was a feeling that voters are likely to vote against Sarkozy rather than for Hollande, who has been dubbed bland even by those within his own party.Over the weekend, Sarkozy took to the stage at a rally in Toulouse to talk about tough borders and strong national identity, to hammer home a message aimed at the nearly one-in-five far-right voters whose support he needs to win a second term.
