A baby rare white wombat is found in Australia and rescuers nurse it back to health.
A rare white wombat was nursed back to health, in Ceduna, Australia, after he was found alone and unwell a month earlier near the town, local media reported on Tuesday.The Southern hairy-nosed wombat was found close to death, dehydrated and exhausted, by shearers working on a remote property.He was named Polar by the wildlife volunteer who nursed him back to health. Ive been looking after wombats for nearly 40 years, and hes the third white one thats come into my care. And, yes, hes very rare, said wildlife rescuer, Val Salmon.Salmon also looks after another wombat and a baby kangaroo. Wildlife caregivers plan to use Polar for educational purposes, and for future breeding programmes in a couple of years.The Southern hairy-nosed wombat grows to a length of 75 to 100 cm (30 to 40 inches). Its full-grown weight ranges from 18 to 32 kg (40 to 68 pounds).
