It was believed that night parrot had gone extinct but it has now been seen in Australia

(Web Desk) – After remaining out of human sight for about one hundred years, the night parrot has returned, proving the age-old understanding that the specie had gone extinct. The bird has recently been seen repeatedly in Australia. Nobody knows as yet though where had it been for so long.

According to scientists, this special specie among parrots had developed distinct features from the other parrots around 3.3 million years ago. The primary difference between this parrot and the other parrots is that it goes out in search of food at night and its habits are more similar to those of owls than parrots.

The night parrot is a rare bird and it is believed that this specie has 50 to 249 birds living on earth right now. It is supposed to exist mainly in Queensland area of Australia since the parrot has only been seen here till now. The information about the night parrot is quite limited since it’s the first time it has reemerged after going extinct, according to zoologists, since 1912.

The night parrot looks quite similar to other parrots due to its green colour. Its wings are greenish yellow and have stripes as well. Wildlife experts say that it eats the seeds of wild grass and the females lay 2-4 eggs. It makes its nest in ditches surrounded by grass in order to hide itself.
