Bodybuilder took injections to become Hulk, almost ended up armless
Romario wanted to look like the Incredible Hulk and almost risked his life for achieving his dream
LAHORE: (Web Desk) – Romario Dos Santos Alves, 25, almost risked his life as he made a cocktail of painkillers, oil and alcohol to have for making a body like the ‘Incredible Hulk’ and though he got a 25 inch bicep, he never realized that his muscles were gradually turning into rocks.
It was only later that he was told by the doctors that they would have to amputate both his arms to save his life as they had turned into rocks and were of no use anymore. Romario had even ditched his wife into giving him injections at parts of his body where he himself couldn’t reach.
“I remember the doctor told me that they would need to amputate both arms - they said everything in there, all my muscles, were rock”, said Romario. Dwelling upon the past when he was addicted to this synthol, Romario said that it was addictive. “If you take it once there will definitely be a second time”, he added.
In an interview, Romario said that he wanted to make his body look like Hulk’s. He said that he was fascinated by the big guys in the gym and asked them how he could have a body like them. They told him of such tricks and though he started to take these drugs only for getting a bigger body, they gradually became an addiction.
Romario’s wife Marisangela Marinho said that she was terrified when she heard about the doctor’s advice. She told Romario that he would have to choose between these drugs and his family (the couple has a son as well). “That was the hardest part of our life”, Romario said. “I had lost my job. I was hospitalized while my wife was six months pregnant”, he recalled. “That was when I decided to fix my ways and I never wanted to take any drugs. We almost starved”, he added.
Although Romario was feared by some, he was a hero for the local boys and kids who said that he looked like Hulk. This fascinated Romario as he always wanted to look like Hulk. However, he had now decided to give up on the drugs.
It was a huge relief for him mentally when he was told by the doctors that they will not have to amputate his arms and just remove the synthol rocks that had formed in his arms.
Romario said that bodybuilding still enthralled him and it was still his passion but he would now do it without using such drugs. “I regret it a lot – my ambition is still to become a bodybuilder but I’ve got a long way to go. I know I will achieve it though.”
