Hina Kanwal will lead Pakistan's squad in Women Asian Hockey Federation Cup.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Hina Kanwal, who lives in a Railway Colony quarter in Lahore with her family, has now become Pakistan’s identity.



Her father, Sheikh Aftab who is electrician by profession wanted her daughter to become a doctor but Hina’s dream was bigger than this.



She will lead Pakistan’s team at the Women Asian Hockey Federation Cup to be held in Bangkok from October 1-9.



“I was mentally prepared for this. I used to pick and drop her for training sessions and that has boosted her confidence. I am hopeful she will be successful,” Hina’s father Sheikh Aftab Ahmed said.

Apart from being captain, she has also become an example of success for the team members.

“Here, it is very difficult for girls to come out but my parents did not impose any restriction. It was my wish to represent Pakistan as women hockey team’s captain,” Hina said.

Hina Kanwal will lead the squad while Rizwana Yasmin will be the vice-captain. Apart from 18 players for the said competition, six standbys have also been named.



While young Pakistani girls are often discouraged from partaking in sports and athletics, Hina Kanwal stands among a bunch of inspirational ladies that have defied all odds and dared to dream big.
