India win Asia Cup crushing Sri Lanka by 81 runs

Dunya News

India 268-6 in 50 overs (Dinesh Karthik 66, Rohit Sharma 41) Sri Lanka 187 all out in 44.4 overs (Chamara Kapugedera 55 not out) Ashish Nehra scalped four wickets while Dinesh Karthik struck 66 as India broke their 15-year-jinx to lift the Asia Cup in Dambulla, beating Sri Lanka by 81 runs. Batting first on Thursday, India made 268-6 in 50 overs. Dinesh Karthik hit a controlled 66 while Rohit Sharma chipped in with 41 as India posted a challenging 268 for six against Sri Lanka. Sharma and Raina kept things moving for India after Kandamby's double blow had threatened to strangulate the innings. Lasith Malinga did it again. Suresh Raina was trapped in front of the wickets after the southpaw failed to read a searing yorker. Sharma was picked up by Numwan Kulasekara after the right-handed middle-order batsman struck a composed 41 to help India edge towards a strong total. Dhoni (38), Suresh Raina (29) and Ravinrda Jadeja played useful knocks in the middle-order against a tight Sri Lankan attack. In reply, Sri Lanka were bundled out for 187 in the 45th over. Praveen Kumar bowled out dangerous Dilshan. Some superb bowling from Zaheer Khan finally paid off, with the left arm seamer cleaning up Sri Lankan opener Upul Tharanga. Sensational stuff from Ashish Nehra. Two wickets in the 14th over and Mahela Jaywardene and Angelo Mathews were back in the pavilion. Middle order batsmen could not stay long and Sri Lanka lost the match by 81 runs.
