Load shedding continues to stifle the nation

Balochistan is facing the worst power crisis, despite a decrease in the electricity shortfall.

Rural areas of Balochistan are suffering a power outage of up to 18 hours when the other provinces get a reduction in load shedding hours.According to Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO), the country is facing an electricity shortfall of 1,703 megawatt. The country is generating 14,453 megawatt of electricity while the demand is 16,156 megawatt that leaves a shortfall of 1,703 megawatt. In various areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa load shedding hours are varying from 6 to 10 hours a day.The residents of Lahore are suffering from five hours a day power outage while in rural areas the duration is eight hours a day. The electricity shortfall in southern Punjab has reached 450 megawatt and the people are bearing long hours of unscheduled and unpredictable load shedding. To meet the shortfall of 650 megawatt, rural areas of Balochistan are suffering a power outage of up to 18 hours while power supply to the cities in the province is being suspended for eight hours a day.
