PTI's candidate Arif Alvi claims to win presidential election

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Arif Alvi on Sunday has claimed to win presidential election scheduled to be held on September 4.

Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has also stated that Arif Alvi will easily win the polls.

Talking to media after a meeting of the senior party leadership in Bani Gala with Prime Minister and party Chairman Imran Khan in the chair, he said that the PTI enjoys support of all of its allied parties, including Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid-e-Azam, Balochistan Awami Party and Grand Democratic Alliance, adding that the name of Dr Arif Alvi is final from the party for election to the slot of President.


APC by opposition parties


On the other hand, an All Parties Comference (APC) of the grand opposition chaired by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif could not reach consensus to bring a joint candidate of the opposition for president.

The meeting which was attended by the leaders of 11 opposition parties including Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) , Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), Awami National Party (ANP), Mutahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) and others continued for around four hours.


PPP seeks support for Aitzaz Ahsan


PPP is seeking support of other parties for its candidate Aitzaz Ahsan for the top slot.

A consultative meeting of the PPP headed by ex-opposition leader in NA Khurshid Shah was held earlier which was attended by Mian Raza Rabbani, Aitzaz Ahsan, Sherry Rehman, Qamar Zaman Kaira and Chaudhry Manzoor.

Shah also held telephonic contacts with Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Hasil Bizenjo and Mehmood Achakzai.
