After carrying out scientific tests, groundwater in six districts in Sindh has been declared poisonous for human consumption. Lives of more than 3 million villagers are at risk due to the poisonous water.

In the rural areas of Khairpur, Tando Allahyar, Nawabshah, Thatta, Matiari and Jamshoro the water has been declared poisonous. After laboratory test, the water according to the standards of World Health Organization (WHO) is unfit for human consumption as 70 percent of the water is contaminated. A population of more than 3 million resides in the areas whose lives are at risk. The High Tech Central Resource laboratory after conducting the necessary test on the ground water concluded that from non metallic particles, Arsenic and from metallic particles, dangerously high levels of lead and cadmium were present in the water. Such levels of contamination acts as a mild poison hence the water is unfit for human consumption. If the contaminated water is consumed, it will drain the calcium out of the body. Not only that, the body is also at the risk of developing cancer at an early age. Laboratory tests establish that sue to the increase in salinity of the soil the ground water is unfit for consumption but despite the contamination, the water is still used in various rural areas in Sindh.
