(Dunya News) – In response to allegations of sexual harassment made by female students of Jamshoro University against the faculty, the Supreme Court took notice of the allegations following which the university’s administration has finally initiated an inquiry into the matter.

The Chief Justice has summoned a report from the university registrar by November 7.

Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar took notice after complaints were registered by students of the university’s Department of English Literature.

According to the submitted application, teachers who had sexually harassed their students were creating hurdles in the submission of the students’ thesis for not having succumbed to their advances.

While the students stated that they had informed the Vice Chancellor of the university about the harassment a number of times, students claim the VC had refrained from taking any action while being under pressure of teachers’ union.

The registrar of the institution, however, says that the harassment cell had sprung into action prior to the Supreme Court having taken notice of the allegations.

ASP Jamshoro also met with the director of the English department and sought information over the issue.
