Nawaz Sharif is termed 'Modi's friend' and 'traitor'.
NEW YORK (Dunya News) - Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said that Nawaz Sharif paid a political price for peace efforts with India and was termed ‘Modi’s friend’ and ‘traitor’.
“Nawaz Sharif staked his political career in achieving or stabilizing our relation with India. I won’t say that it can be pleasant or lovey dovey relationship overnight but stabilizing the relation,” he said while speaking at Asia Society seminar in New York.
“He was called Modi’s friend and traitor by our political opponents in Pakistan despite that Nawaz Sharif’s state pursued that objective,” said Asif.
The minister said various Afghan leaders want to continue status quo for their vested interests. He said Pakistan cannot owe responsibility of peace and security in Afghanistan.
Khawaja Asif asserted that India is involved in terrorist activities in Pakistan through Afghanistan while more than 66 terrorist organizations are active inside India.
The United States cannot succeed in Afghanistan through waging war, he added. Asif notified that effective border management with Afghanistan is imperative to stop infiltration of terrorists.
The foreign minister told that Pakistan enjoys good relations with West and Russia.
